Hire My Team

Last week, I and most of my team were laid off from Indeed. It was a difficult transition for us, to say the least.

Ever since I announced that I'd been laid off, many wonderful folks have reached out with kind words and asked me "Is there anything I can do to help?"

My one request right now: Hire My Team.

I spent five years recruiting, hiring, and working with some truly excellent people, many of whom are now on the market. They are thoughtful, collaborative, and intentional software engineers and program managers who developed specializations and experience while working with me in the Open Source Program Office at Indeed. My Program Management Team:

Jade Applegate was my right hand for almost five years. She's the person who made sure Present Duane understood the commitments he was making on behalf of Future Duane. To the degree that any of my weird ideas ever came to fruition, I have Jade to thank. She was my PMO partner-in-crime.

Katie Schueths, MBA joined my team about a year ago to build a nascent InnerSource Program. She has spend the last year building strong credibility in the InnerSource community, and carried the program further and faster than I ever could have imagined in our time together.

Rosaria Carr PMP, BRMP joined my team about six months ago to embed in the OpenSSF working groups and build bridges between OpenSSF, the OSPO, and Indeed Security. She has a strategic mind, and a seemingly magical ability to pull PMO artifacts from behind my ear as if they were hidden quarters.

My Software Engineering Team:

Kevin Smith joined the team in late 2018 as our engineering manager. He is methodical and diligent in all the ways I am not. He has a dedication to software craft and developing his team that outstrips anyone I've ever worked with. He made our team better in more ways than I can count. You could not ask for a better ally.

Danielle Gellis joined the team in mid-2018 as my first code-slinger. In our nearly 5 years working together, Dani regularly surprised me with her insights and ideas for things we could do in the program. Her background as an outdoor educator makes her a natural teacher, mentor, and leader. She wrote and maintains the Starfish tool that supports the FOSS Contributor Fund.

Ingrid García joined the team in 2019. Right away she started building tools to support program operations and cross-org collaborations. Most recently she had the unenviable task ot inheriting code I wrote to drive our GitHub Sponsors engagement and turn it into code that any other human could read, use, or understand. Wise beyond her years.

Please share, boost, and open connections for these wonderful people. If you're looking to jump-start an OSPO, hire all of them at once. Reach out to me if you want more information about any of them or the great work that we did.
